Railway RRB ALP Recruitment 2026: Apply Online for 11127 Vacancies
The Government of India, Ministry of Railways, Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have released the Detailed Centralised Employment Notice (CEN No. 01/2026) for the massive recruitment of Assistant Loco Pilots (ALP) across various Railway Zones. Eligible and dynamic candidates seeking a prestigious career in the Indian Railways can apply ONLINE from 15 May 2026 to 14 June 2026. Please read the complete CEN notification carefully to understand the category-wise vacancy distribution, strict medical standards (A-1), educational criteria, and the multi-stage selection process.

The post of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) falls under Pay Level-2 in the 7th CPC with an initial basic pay of Rs. 19,900/-. The category-wise breakdown of total vacancies across all RRBs is as follows:

Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess the essential qualification on or before the closing date of application[cite: 13]. Those awaiting final results are NOT eligible[cite: 13]. The required qualifications are:
- Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from recognized institutions of NCVT/SCVT in relevant trades (e.g., Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Mechanic Diesel, Turner, Machinist, etc.)[cite: 13]. OR
- Matriculation / SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the aforementioned trades[cite: 13]. OR
- Matriculation / SSLC plus 3-year Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Automobile Engineering from a recognized Institution[cite: 13]. OR
- Degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) in the above disciplines is also acceptable in lieu of a Diploma[cite: 13].
Age Limit (As on 01/07/2026)
- Minimum Age: 18 Years[cite: 13].
- Maximum Age: 30 Years[cite: 13].
- Age Relaxation: Upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (NCL), and as per rules for Ex-Servicemen and other specified categories[cite: 13].
Strict Medical Standards (A-1 Category)
The post of ALP has stringent medical standards, especially concerning vision[cite: 13]. Candidates found medically unsuitable will not be given any alternative appointment[cite: 13].
- Vision Standards: Distant Vision must be 6/6, 6/6 without glasses with fogging test (must not accept +2D)[cite: 13]. Near Vision must be Sn: 0.6, 0.6 without glasses[cite: 13].
- Candidates must pass tests for Colour Vision, Binocular Vision, Field of Vision, Night Vision, and Mesopic Vision[cite: 13].
- Important: Candidates who have undergone LASIK Surgery or any other surgical procedure to correct refractive errors are NOT eligible[cite: 13].
Multi-Stage Selection Process
- First Stage CBT (CBT-1): A screening test consisting of 75 objective questions to be completed in 60 minutes[cite: 13]. Topics include Mathematics, Mental Ability, and General Science[cite: 13].
- Second Stage CBT (CBT-2): Shortlisted candidates (15 times the vacancies) will take CBT-2[cite: 13]. It comprises Part-A (100 questions in 90 mins) for merit and Part-B (75 trade-specific questions in 60 mins) which is qualifying in nature (35% marks required)[cite: 13].
- Negative Marking: There will be a negative marking of 1/3rd mark for every wrong answer in both CBT-1 and CBT-2[cite: 13].
- Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Candidates (8 times the vacancies) qualifying CBT-2 will face CBAT[cite: 13]. There is NO negative marking in CBAT, and candidates must secure a minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery to qualify[cite: 13].
- Document Verification (DV) & Medical Exam (ME): Final selection is based on 50% weightage from CBT-2 (Part A) and 50% weightage from CBAT, followed by DV and Medical Examination[cite: 13].
